Good Earth Tours
We covered over 2,500 miles by road in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. Along the way there was plenty of interesting, and quite often amusing sites to keep me and my camera entertained.
What can you carry on your head?
Not pictured here is the woman Lisa saw in Rwanda carrying a 3-seater wicker couch on her head!
What can you carry on a bike?
I’ve tried carrying two bags full of groceries a mile or two on my bike and it’s nearly impossible and definitely dangerous. I’m not trying any of these items:
Interesting forms of transport
It seems that it’s a requirement in East Africa that one must name their mode of public transportation. Often it’s a misspelled Western name related to Entertainment (usually movies or music), a religious reference or something about ‘Business Class’ or ‘VIP.’ The names never seem appropriate. Oh, and they are always overcrowded here.
Interesting shops and merchandise
Erectricty, Breast Firming Cream, Coffins and Red\Green\Yellow Bananas.
Oh, and what else other than a hotel/butchery. Because I don’t want to have to walk far from my hotel room to get a slab of highway dust-covered goat’s meat.
Butchers from Hell
We’re foodies, we love to try new restaurants and attempt dishes at home. But on our travels in East Africa there’s one thing that we quickly learnt, beware of the local butchers! We asked Gavin, the boat driver in Jinja, Uganda about the local meat. His response to our question about whether or not it’s safe. “Well, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy some….for my dog.”
Waving Kids
There aren’t a lot of these photos because I was usually too busy waving back to the kids that waved from the side of the road with their cries of “Mzungu.”
