I’ve been meaning to look at the log files generated for my site for a while, especially after the TransRockies. I finally got round to it this weekend and there’s good and bad data! Unfortunately I only have log files from July 2008 but it’s clear the TransRockies had quite an impact on the usage of the site. In August-September the traffic doubled and in November it tripled. Five thousand unique visits is pretty good for a hobbie! image But In December and January it’s really dropped, and it gets even worse if you consider a lot of this traffic I generate for testing: image Looking at were my traffic comes from it’s not surprising the traffic has dropped, the majority of the traffic comes from people directly hitting the site. The TransRockies caused the greatest number of referrals from Darren’s Website, the Microsoft UK website and the TransRockies website. The good news is Live Search is how I get the majority of my referral traffic :) image The data also showed how global the TransRockies was because I picked traffic from all of the world. In particular Alberta (in Canada), Washington (in the US), the UK and China!

Oh well, it’s nice to know the effort can be worth it, now I just need to work out what the next thing is that’ll drive usage back up!
