23 November, Tuesday; Cape Town, South Africa.
The main focus of our trip (well, besides spending time together) was seeing animals. Our first full day wasn’t meant to be about animals, but it was a nice sneak peak.
First sighting. These little guys were all over the place at Cape Point and looked like tiny black alligators.
Second sighting. I was feeling the effects of jet lag and begrudgingly conceded to Ben’s request to take a detour and check out the second signpost at Cape Point. It was definitely worth the extra time, as we came across three ostriches along the beach. Ironically, I’d just eaten ostrich for dinner the previous night!
Third sighting. Ok, here’s a bit of super strange trivia for you. Dassies are the closest living relative to the elephant. Now, you are that much smarter for reading this blog!
Fourth signing. Lots of penguins! Penguins are always a favorite at the zoo, but it’s another thing to see them in the wild. They were quite docile when we saw them, likely due to the fact that they were moulting, which also meant some of them were quite unkempt.

Don’t run over the penguins!
