| | As many of you know I am a huge fan of the Mythbusters show on the Discovery Channel. I’ve watched since the very first episode, and just love how they use myths as a way to show the value of the scientific method when investigating the unknown. What you may not know is that I entered a contest six months ago to appear on the show. I was bound by confidentiality agreements until now, but… I won!!! The prize is helping the Mythbusters bust a myth. When I submitted my name for the contest I expected I would fly back to San Francisco to help them with something easy (perhaps yet another fuel economy myth). But no. It’s a major myth involving animal migrations, fuelled by non-believers of the BBC Life series, and they’re filming it in Africa! For the next five weeks I’ll be travelling across South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Pemba, and Tanzania with Jamie, Adam, Tory, Kari, Grant, and their film crew. As you might imagine the shoot days will be long and hard and Internet connectivity is rather spotty. Plus I’ll be trying not to get trampled by migrating animals. Given all these challenges I regret that I won’t be able to respond to your e-mail until I return on 27th December. For urgent matters please contact: - etc etc - Wish me luck, and watch for the episode to air sometime during May sweeps!
