Intrepid Overland
12 December, Sunday; Nairobi, Kenya.
Today was both a sad and happy day. On one hand, I am sad to leave this group of people and our overland adventure. On the other hand, I’m excited to be heading to Tanzania. We had an early morning with tents down before breakfast at 6:30. It had been our last night in a tent, though we could have upgraded to Bill Gates’ suite. Ben wasn’t feeling well, so the rolling up of the tent was in my hands – hands that were about to get wet and muddy. Luckily, Silvan helped me with the dirty job of getting the tent rolled up and into the bag.
After the requisite group photos, we were on the road to Nairobi and the end of our time together.
Perhaps Karen will drive us back to Nairobi
A playful bunch
All smiles. Is it because they know they’ll get rid of us Mzungus in a few hours for some much-deserved time off?
Things I will miss:
The company of our new friends: Rebecca, Karen, Vicky, Silvan and Judy
Pesh’s caring and nothing’s-a-problem attitude
Liz’s yummy camp cooking, “home-made” soup and her infectious laugh
Akiyo’s never-ending helpfulness
Staring out the window at the countryside and village life
The adventure of overlanding
Things I won’t miss:
Putting up the tent
Taking down the tent
Sleeping in a smelly tent
Rolling up a nasty, wet, muddy tent (did I mention the tent?)
Drop/pit toilets
Musty, mystery goo-covered shower walls
Cold showers (except when it’s really hot…then I don’t mind these at all)
